When is the best time of year to elope in Acadia National Park?
When should you elope in Acadia?
If you're dreaming of an elopement surrounded by all sorts of nature, Acadia National Park might just be your perfect spot. Nestled along the rugged coast of Maine, Acadia offers a stunning backdrop for couples seeking an intimate and memorable wedding experience. But when's the best time to plan your elopement experience in Acadia? Good question! Let's break down each season so you can pick the one that suits your vision. I’ll cover what each season looks like in terms of weather, crowds, suitable activities and more.
Eloping in Acadia National Park in the Spring
Spring in Acadia is magical, simply put. From late April to early June, the park wakes up from its winter slumber with bursts of vibrant wildflowers and vibrant greens. The weather starts warming up, with temperatures ranging from the 40s to 70s, and getting warmer as you enter early June. This season offers quieter trails and fewer tourists compared to the peak summer months, as school is still in session.
In June, some great activities to include in your Acadia elopement would be hiking trails like the Ocean Path, a seaside picnic, or boat ride.
Early June is personally one of my favorite times to be in Acadia for the mild weather, quiet trails and vibrant greens!

Acadia Elopements in Summer
Summer! This is definitely the most popular time to visit Acadia. From late June to August, the park is buzzing with activity. The weather is pleasantly warm, ranging from the 60s to 80s, with your occasional heat wave. Expect longer daylight hours, which means more time to explore and adventure.
If you visit Acadia in the summer months, you might want to spend some time kayaking around the coastline, cycling the Carriage Roads, or simply relaxing on Sand Beach.
While Acadia is beautiful in the summer, I generally don’t recommend it for elopements because of the crowds and heat. But if your heart is set on July and August, follow it! Just be prepared to enjoy the trails with others!
Fall Elopements in Acadia National Park
If you’ve ever wanted to experience quintessential fall, there is no better place than Acadia + Bar Harbor from late September to mid October! The air gets crisp as the weather starts cooling down, with temperatures ranging from the 40s to 60s. The park lights up with its autumn foliage, offering the most beautiful scenes. Crowds thin out after Labor Day, providing a quieter experience amidst nature's vibrant transformation.
What to do for your fall elopement in Acadia? Take a scenic drive along Park Loop Road or hike to the top of Bubble Rocks for panoramic views of the foliage-covered landscape. Jesup Path and its surrounding trails offer serene spots for foliage viewing too!
Late September to mid October is another favorite time of mine to be in Acadia. Getting a glimpse of the foliage, but hitting it before peak time to avoid the crowds is generally the goal for my fall couples, which I’ve found best happens around that time frame.

Winter Elopements in Acadia
Winter in Acadia (December to March) transforms the park into a tranquil winter wonderland. Temperatures can range from the teens to 30s, creating a cozy winter experience. While some roads and many facilities in Bar Harbor may be closed, the quieter atmosphere allows for a more intimate elopement experience amidst potentially frost covered pines and serene landscapes.
If eloping in Acadia in the winter, consider a cozy ceremony by a fireplace in one of the islands bed and breakfasts or by a frozen pond if you're feeling adventurous!
While I generally don’t recommend winter elopements in Acadia (only due to the weather and lack of open business in Bar Harbor), it can be a beautiful time if you’re wanting to have a cozy, quiet, frosty day!
