Recommendations for How to Spend A Day Eloping in Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park, with its rugged coastlines, dense forests, and breathtaking views, is a magical place to elope. Imagine a day that starts with vows on a scenic trail, continues with a luxurious picnic nestled by some ferns, followed by a cozy boat ride, and wraps up with an evening exploring the coastline. This is a look at just one type of recommendation for how to spend your day eloping in Acadia National Park. And bonus - this elopement plan is realistic rain or shine! Here’s how you can spend your perfect elopement day in Acadia National Park, inspired by a real-life elopement that combined adventure, intentionality, and some unforgettable moments.

Morning: Vows on a Scenic Trail

Begin your elopement day with an intimate ceremony surrounded by the peace of nature. Choose a trail that offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere for your vows. In Acadia, you can elope anywhere in the park if you have 10 people or less. Lucky for Mariah + Austin, it was just the two of them, so we chose this beautiful coastal cove. While rain and fog might not be your first choice of weather for your elopement, it can make for a cozy vibe, stunning photos, and keep things quieter in the park with others staying off the trails!

Midday: A Luxury Picnic in the Trees

After your vows, treat yourselves to a luxurious picnic amidst the trees. Find a secluded spot within the park, such as Fabbri Picnic Area, where this picnic was had, or maybe even somewhere with a coastal view like Seawall. Either way, choose a spot where you can enjoy both privacy and spectacular views.

Tip:

To elevate the experience, consider hiring a local service such as Luxury Picnics Acadia, specializing in beautiful park picnics. They can provide everything from a beautifully set table to comfortable seating, ensuring that your picnic is as memorable as it is delicious. However, if you want to bring your favorites to arrange something special for yourselves, that can be wonderful too!

Afternoon: A Cozy Boat Ride Through Somes Sound

In the afternoon, embark on a snuggly boat ride through Somes Sound, the only fjord on the East Coast of the United States! This serene waterway is perfect for a leisurely cruise, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and lush forests. Whether you choose a private charter or a guided tour, the calm waters and stunning landscape will make for a truly unforgettable experience.

Tip:

Mariah and Austin used Jericho MDI for their boat adventure. We had Captain Mike and he was wonderful at sharing fun facts and history about the area while also giving M+A space to do their own thing like cut cake + pop champagne!

Evening: Exploring the Coastline

As the sun begins to set, take some time to explore Acadia’s rugged coastline. The Park Loop Road offers several scenic overlooks and beach access points. Enjoy a peaceful stroll along Otter Cliffs or Otter Point which are both great for sunset and are perfect for marveling at the ocean’s power and the dramatic rock formations.

Tip:

Exploring the coastline is a great option for a rainy/foggy day like this was, however on a sunnier day, maybe consider a sunset hike to one of Acadia’s famous peaks to take in the views of the island from above!

Bonus Tips for a Seamless Elopement Experience

Plan Ahead: Acadia National Park requires permits for weddings and elopements over 10 guests. Be sure to secure any necessary permits well in advance.
