Elopement at the Hygge Hus in Mt. Baker, Washington

Eloping in Mt. Baker, Washington, is a dream for couples who love nature, adventure, and incredible landscapes. It’s personally one of my favorite locations to photograph elopements in! From massive mountain peaks to dense forests and beautiful lakes and rivers, Mt. Baker is totally underrated when it comes to locations in the north west!

In this blog post, we’ll discuss some general tips for eloping in Mt. Baker and the importance of choosing the perfect accommodation to make your elopement even more special! Plus, we’ll dive into Brittany and Bryce’s magical elopement day at the Hygge Hus - the coziest airbnb you ever did see!

Tips for Eloping in Mt. Baker, Washington

  1. Choose the Right Season

    • Summer & Early Fall: Perfect for hiking, clear mountain views, and accessible trails.

    • Winter: A snowy wonderland, great for cozy cabin elopements and adventurous couples who love skiing or snowshoeing.

The road to Artist Point, which is where several of the beautiful trails lead from, is usually closed due to snow until mid - July, so I generally recommend August as the best month to elope near Mt. Baker!

2. Be Flexible with the Weather
The Pacific Northwest is known for unpredictable weather, so having a backup plan and being flexible is crucial. Overcast skies, mist, or unexpected rain can add a moody, magical feel to your photos—embrace the elements!

3. Pick a Stunning & Comfortable Accommodation
Your elopement day isn’t just about the ceremony—it’s about the entire experience! Choosing a cozy and scenic Airbnb, like the Hygge Hus, allows you to start and end your day in a comfortable and beautiful setting. And, if weather makes things go totally different than your plan, you always have your airbnb as a great back up location for enjoying the day!

4. Incorporate Personal Touches
Whether it’s a private first look, a picnic by a river, or a hot tub soak under the stars, including personal details makes your elopement even more meaningful.

Brittany & Bryce’s Elopement at Hygge Hus

Brittany and Bryce’s elopement in Mt. Baker was nothing short of magical. They embraced every moment, from a slow morning in their cozy cabin to adventuring through forests, mountains, and rivers.

A Relaxed Morning at Hygge Hus

Their day started at Hygge Hus, a beautiful cabin tucked among the trees, featuring large glass windows looking out to the trees surrounding them. They took their time getting ready, enjoying a slow morning in their surroundings while I captured some detail shots.

Once they were ready, we wandered along a secluded trail right next to their cabin for their first look. With nothing but towering evergreens around us, they saw each other all done up in their wedding day outfits for the first time!

Vows in the Mountains

The weather wasn’t exactly what we had planned, so we made a spontaneous decision to head up the mountains to see what the conditions were like. After hiking along a trail that circled pristine alpine lakes, we found the perfect secluded spot for them to exchange their vows. The mist rolling over the peaks only added to the dramatic scenery of the mountains surrounding us!

Exploring the Forest & River

After their mountain adventure, we drove back down to a lower elevation, embracing the moody charm of the PNW forests. The rich green moss, towering trees, and a bright blue river was so beautiful and fun to explore! Brittany and Bryce enjoyed a sushi picnic next to the river. Yummy food AND a view!

A Cozy Evening Back at the Cabin

As the sun began to set, we returned to Hygge Hus for the final part of their elopement day. We explored more of the forested trails around their cabin, enjoying the last bit of daylight. Brittany’s dress had these incredible cape sleeves, so we took a few minutes to put those on and play around with her stunning dress!

To end the night, they cut some cake and relaxed in the fairy light-covered hot tub. Can you name a better end to such a special day!?

Why Choosing the Right Accommodation Matters

Your elopement isn’t just about the ceremony location—it’s about the entire experience! Staying in a beautiful and cozy Airbnb like Hygge Hus allows you to:

  • Have a peaceful and intimate space to get ready.

  • Incorporate unique moments like a first look on a private trail.

  • Relax and celebrate in a way that feels natural to you—whether that’s a fireside dinner, a hot tub soak, or cutting cake under the stars.

  • Have a location that you’re excited to be in, if all else fails with the weather!
