Known for its challenging climb featuring ladders and iron rungs, this hike rewards it’s takers with incredible panoramic views—especially at sunrise when the golden light illuminates the rugged coastline. If you love an adventure, this hike provides quite the elopement experience.
In this post, we’ll dive into David and Ivy’s incredible sunrise elopement at Beehive, along with tips for planning your own adventure elopement in Acadia!
Beehive Trail Sunrise Elopement
David and Ivy traveled from New York City to Acadia National Park for a symbolic elopement, as they planned to legally marry with their family at a courthouse the following week. They were drawn to Acadia’s beauty and wanted an experience that combined their love for adventure and the outdoors.
Acadia’s Best Sunrise Hike
The Beehive Trail is not for the faint of heart, especially before sunrise! With ladders, rungs, and steep cliffs, this hike is a bit of a challenge—but David and Ivy were determined! Equipped with headlamps, and in hiking clothes, we took our time making our way up in the dark, ensuring every step was safe. Just as the sky started glowing with hints of sunrise, we reached the summit—and to our amazement, we had it all to ourselves!! Not for long, but for a few minutes, this was a rare moment, as Beehive is usually a popular spot for hikers!
Private Vows Overlooking Acadia
At the top, we found a secluded cove where David and Ivy could change into their wedding outfits. Once ready, they shared their first look and exchanged vows as the sun rose behind them, the most BEAUTIFUL golden light!! The contrast of the crisp morning air, vibrant fall foliage, and warm sunlight created an absolute moment for the two of them.
After soaking in the views and taking portraits as the morning light shifted, we watched as other hikers began to reach the summit. It was time to head back down and continue on in the park!
Rainy Beach Stop
Our next stop was a secluded beach—one of my favorite hidden gems in Acadia. As we walked out of the forest and onto the sand, a storm suddenly rolled in. The contrast was surreal—after such a calm, beautiful sunrise, the sky quickly turned gray, and within moments, we were caught in a downpour. Rather than running for cover, David and Ivy embraced the moment, laughing as they got drenched by the rain and he covered her with his jacket. It was an unforgettable, spontaneous experience that made their elopement even more special.
Magical Forest of Acadia
After drying off and warming up, we made our way to Jesup Path for the final stop of the day. This boardwalk trail winds through a stunning birch and maple forest, and during peak fall, the foliage creates an beautiful tunnel of golden leaves. David and Ivy wandered through the trees, and it was the perfect peaceful and dreamy way to end their morning adventure!
