When Amanda and Zane decided to tie the knot, they knew they wanted their elopement to be as extraordinary and unforgettable as possible. And what’s more extraordinary than a helicopter taking you around the insane views of Alaska!?
These two had come to Alaska together early on in their relationship, and it only felt right to head back to the land the love, AND to share it with all of their favorite people. Instead of a traditional wedding, they chose to embark on a two-day adventure deep within the rugged beauty of Alaska. Their journey started in a helicopter elopement around Seward and landed with a ceremony on a private island in Resurrection Bay on Day 2 (which you can see here!). Their decision for a two day elopement was one that transformed their special day into an unparalleled experience of nature's most stunning vitas.
Sunrise Elopement in Seward
Their adventure began just after sunrise, a magical time when the Alaskan sky bursts into hues of orange and pink. Amanda, Zane and I met with their experienced helicopter pilot, whose warm demeanor immediately put us at ease. Amanda’s dad is a helicopter pilot, so her family came along to send us off, which was a really sweet start of the day!
As we flew over Ressurection Bay towards Bear Glacier, we were offered the first glimpse of this colossal ice formation, and the incredible mountains surrounding it. The sheer scale and pristine beauty of the glacier left them in awe, providing a perfect backdrop for our first photos of the day. We hopped out into a bowl overlooking the glacier and iceberg lagoon, and watched the sun rise over the mountain behind us, illuminating everything in front of us. Personally, I was freaking the heck out at how incredible this day already was. And I know Amanda + Zane were too :)

Bear Glacier Lagoon Elopement
Next, the helicopter descended to the serene shores of Bear Glacier Lagoon. What’s so fun about helicopters, is that they can land relatively anywhere. Our pilot Mike, with Marathon Helicopters, took us to a few different places along the beach to let us decide where we wanted to get out. We landed on an incredible spot with iceberg chunks surrounding us. We got out, able to explore the shoreline and beautiful water with reflections of the surrounding mountains and icebergs. This secluded spot felt like their own private paradise, far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, or any other life for that matter. It was an incredible experience and only made for the most beautiful photos.

Next up, Amanda and Zane were whisked away to the summit of a nearby mountain, offering panoramic views of Resurrection Bay. This was their favorite spot and I can’t blame them. From this vantage point, the expansive bay stretched out before them, framed by towering peaks and lush forests. What was even cooler was the view of Fox Island in the background - the exact spot they’d have their ceremony the next day!

Their helicopter adventure concluded with a thrilling drop-off at the top of Mt. Marathon. Here, they changed into comfy outfits and had a picnic before embarking on a scenic hike down the mountain, surrounded by untouched wilderness and the sounds of nature. It was a great way to have the views and experience of hiking, but not the crazy uphill journey!
