Blue Ridge Mountain Elopement Photography in Asheville NC

This Asheville Micro Wedding is a beautiful example of What a Micro Wedding can be, featuring Ali & Dawson’s stunning Blue Ridge Mountain Elopement Photography

Ali & Dawson met during their time serving in the military, which was sometimes hard to believe because of how sweet-natured this beautiful couple is! For their wedding, they wanted to celebrate with their closest and family and friends, but in an intimate setting. A micro wedding in Asheville was the perfect way to combine those two things.

What is a Micro Wedding?

A Micro Wedding is a term that’s become really popular since the pandemic broke out in 2020 – but what is a micro wedding? And how is it different to an elopement?

Technically, a micro-wedding is a smaller version of a traditional wedding, usually with about 20 guests. Often it still involves elements of a traditional wedding, just with less people.

As someone who’s been photographing elopements and intimate weddings for a number of years, I’d say a micro-wedding is pretty much the same thing as any other intimate wedding or elopement! One of the best things about choosing to elope or have an intimate wedding is that you can choose to get married in a way that is true to you, no matter what that looks like. I’ve photographed adventure elopements that included a lot of “traditional” wedding elements, and others who’ve created something totally unique to them. There’s no reason you can’t do the same for a Micro Wedding! In the end, your wedding day, no matter how big or small and no matter the format it follows, is about celebrating your love and commitment. I’m a firm believer in doing that in whatever way rings true to you, just like Ali & Dawson did for their Asheville Micro Wedding.

Asheville Micro Wedding

Ali & Dawson were married in Asheville, North Carolina, just as the fall season was coming to a beautiful close. They chose to get married surrounded by their closest family & friends and decided the perfect way to celebrate together was to rent a big, beautiful cabin overlooking the mountains. They got ready separately, but in the same house, and had an emotional first look on the back patio overlooking the mountains. From there, they headed to an overlook in the mountains for their micro wedding ceremony. Every moment was beautiful, from the short hike up to the overlook, to the way they thoughtfully organized time for family and group photos.

After their ceremony, Ali & Dawson decided to do sunset adventure portraits to round out their beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain Elopement. We did another hike together, still within Linville Gorge. She hiked in her wedding dress and him in his suit, and they took it all in their stride! They were both so sweet, kind and gentle the whole day. That energy, combined with the epic sunset over Blue Ridge Mountain, made for the most beautiful elopement photography. It was my first time shooting there and I remember thinking that this is the Yosemite of the East Coast! The way the light was shining through, the beautiful backdrop, the last of the fall foliage… I’m so grateful to Ali & Dawson for making it such a beautiful experience and sharing their day with me.
