Holy moly am I excited to share Shaina and Mikes destination wedding with you! These two had a gorgeous intimate wedding at a cozy lodge in Iceland, took their wedding portraits with Icelandic horses, and overall, the day was a beautiful adventure.
Shaina and I went to Millersville together and met my freshman year and her senior year when I signed up to be a member of Student Senate. Her group of friends quickly took in little ol freshman me and showed me the ways. We stayed in touch in and out as I got through school, and in the summer of 2017, she reached out to me.
Chad and I had just gotten back from being models in Robert J Hill’s wedding photography workshop in Iceland. Shaina had seen the images from that week, and they were feeding her inspiration for getting married in Iceland. It also happened to be the same time that I was launching my business into the world of intimate weddings + elopements - and I’m ALWAYS a fan of Iceland.
We chatted, both super giddy about what this day could look like, and continued to navigate the road of planning this amazing weekend over the next two years. When it came time to actually head to Iceland for their wedding weekend, I felt like we’d just blinked and it had arrived!
They had about 20-30 guests join them in the gorgeous country. They booked an adventure session 2 days before their wedding, so that we could explore some other parts of the island together, practice shooting together, and get some super rad images cause hotties + Iceland!! Their actual wedding day was nothing short of perfect. They decided to have their ceremony on the deck of the lodge, looking over a gorgeous view of Iceland mountains. Shaina wore a GORGEOUS dress from Justin Alexander, the weather was amazing, and the love that these two were surrounded by was evident.
Shaina and Mike really wanted to get a few wedding portraits with Icelandic horses. They’re the most pure breed of horse in the world, a large part of Icelands culture, and BEAUTIFUL. We had a few ideas of where they might be, but all we could do was try, as the horses typically have larges areas they can roam about, and we needed them to be up close to a fence. We headed over to the first location, and the wedding gods were looking out for us - the most beautiful horses right next to the fence, ready to be loved!
Their whole wedding, scratch that, their whole wedding weekend was SO much fun. I was thrilled to be a part of it, get to know their loving families, and create some memories so that they can live the weekend over and over again forever.
